Microsoft Windows allows sharing files and folders with users on a same network. To share a folder, you can click ‘My Computer’ and browse to the folder, you want to share. You can then use its ‘Sharing and Security’ option to share the folder on network. This feature also includes certain options that determine whether the file should only be read or opened for complete data access. In case of total read and write access, all users on network can delete, edit, and perform all similar kinds of file operations. If this is the case, administrator requires to maintain a full folder backup to prevent against all probable events of accidental deletion. A file once deleted from shared folder cannot be retrieved unless you have a backup or run a Windows File Recovery utility.

For detail understanding of such issues, consider a realistic case of shared folder. A user places some of important files in a shared folder. Then one of the users on network deletes a shared file and the file is permanently deleted. These are some probable events that can occur to any Windows user sharing its files in a folder.

Cause

Shared folders have been so designed that when you delete any file from them, it bypasses the Recycle Bin of computer from which the deletion has been performed and also is removed from the computer where the file originally resided.

Solution

The administrator is recommended to assign proper file sharing permissions to avoid such data loss events. However, to resolve such issues, one needs solutions like:

Restoring the deleted file from last offline or online backup

Using a File Recovery Software to scan and restore the deleted file

When a file is deleted from hard disk or any other storage media, system erases its location entry from file system table and not the actual data. Original file data is recoverable until overwritten. A Recovery Software can run effective scanning algorithms that prove competent enough to recover such deleted files. Because of their interactive nature, these utilities are easy to use and navigate.

File Recovery Plus is an advanced, yet safe, program that recovers and restores almost all types of deleted or lost files. The software is compatible with Microsoft Windows 7, Vista, XP, 2003, and 2000. This File Recovery Software supports FAT16, FAT32, NTFS, and NTFS5 file systems and includes a user-friendly interface.
